Lehigh Acres, Florida is situated 12 miles east of Fort Myers on the Southwest Coast of the Florida peninsula. Lehigh Acres is a very young community, getting its start in the 1950s after Lee Ratner, a Chicago businessman, needed a tax shelter for his investments. He along with another fellow Chicagoan began developing Lehigh after getting into real estate together shortly after moving here.

Part of the School District of Lee County, Lehigh Acres Elementary, Middle, and Senior High School serve much of the population within this community.
